Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Monkey D. Luffy is a spirited, energetic and somewhat dim-witted young man with a very big dream: to find One Piece and become the Pirate King! However Luffy is no ordinary boy, as when he was younger he ate one of the Devil’s Fruits and gained its power to become a Rubber Man. Now in this grand age of pirates Luffy sets out to gather a crew and sail to the most dangerous sea in the world so that he can fulfill his dream… and maybe even his appetite!

Number of Episodes: 973+

Release Year: 1999-?

If you think it’s a good recommendation for Fairy Tail, it’s an even better one from Black Clover. While the setting is very different, the premise of climbing to the top to be the best (the king specifically) is exactly the same …but with magic and a friendly nemesis. Also, One Piece has a better rating.

9. Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Description: Drawn to the mystique of the unknown, Hunters travel the world in search of terrifying creatures, incredible riches, and unexplored lands. Gon Freecss is a naive-yet-determined young boy who aspires to join the ranks of these individuals, in order to find his missing father Ging – a master of the profession himself. To reach his goal, he partakes in the formidable Hunter Exam, a series of tests that push the participants to their physical and mental limits, with a Hunter License as the prize. During the exam Gon befriends vengeful Kurapika, doctor-to-be Leorio, and skilled assassin Killua, who have entered for their own reasons. But with the sinister Hisoka standing in their way, will Gon and his friends be able to succeed in obtaining their reward, or even escaping with their lives?

Number of Episodes: 148

Release Year: 2011-2014

Both have Character Building in a similar manner. You can connect with the characters of both series.

8. The Seven Deadly Sins

Description: The kingdom of Liones is thrown into turmoil when the king’s Holy Knights are corrupted by a distinctly unholy demonic power. The land’s only hope is a band of powerful warriors known as The Seven Deadly Sins – an exiled group of oddballs who seem to spend as much time fighting each other as they do fighting their enemies. Princess Elizabeth desperately seeks their aid, but the leader of her would-be saviors turns out to be an undersized pervert with a broken blade and a talking pig! They are soon joined by a jealous giant, a fussy fairy, and an immortal bandit pining over his lost love. Can these people really be the legendary heroes she’s looking for?

Number of Episodes: ?

Release Year: 2014-?

The main characters are half demons. They have half demon forms. Of course in the seven deadly sins, the main character is more over powered, but both are about a group of friends that fit together who although many thought they cause trouble, they are the true saviors of there kingdoms.

7. Food Wars!

Description: Ever since he was little, Souma Yukihira’s main goals have been to beat his father in a cooking contest and take over the family diner. That’s why, when his dad suddenly announces that he’s shutting the restaurant down and sending Souma to cooking school, Souma is shocked. However, Tohtsuki Academy is no ordinary cooking school. This elite institution is filled with culinary giants like Erina “God Tongue” Nakiri, who does her best to keep a lowly short-order like Souma from even making it inside the door. However, if the snobs can dish it out, Souma can serve it up, and when he learns that only a handful of the students manage to graduate every year, he swears that the only way he’ll leave is as number one!

Number of Episodes: 86

Release Year: 2015-2020

Although worlds apart with Black Clover’s focus on magic and with food being at the heart of Shokugeki no Souma, both anime intertwine a core message of hard work and never giving up. Both shows are set in a school competition type setting (Black Clover does not have a school but a magic knight’s organisation, it gives the same sense though) with constant battles/food wars in order for the Main Character to perservere and achieve their goals (Wizard King/first seat on the elite ten). In both animes, there is a sense of teamwork as they join a group (Polar Star Dormitory/Black Bulls) and gain guidance alongside odd encounters from eccentric members of each of the respective group members. Lastly, both Main Characters are from poorer backgrounds and must prove themselves through dedication in order to best their rivals. Overall, these animes are both favourites of mine so I’d highly recommend.

6. Blue Exorcist

Description: Rin Okumura is a seemingly ordinary boy living at the Southern Cross Boys’ Monastery. One day, however, Rin encounters a boy who has been possessed by a demon. Amidst the struggle, he not only awakens latent powers sealed within him, but also learns that he is the son of Satan! No longer able to stay under the protection of the church and with his very existence straddling the line between human and demon, Rin decides to fight against his parentage and joins the True Cross Order as an exorcist. Now, the teen must attend the True Cross Academy and begin special exorcist training alongside his new comrades all while keeping his identity a secret; but can the son of Satan really become a true exorcist?

Number of Episodes: 25

Release Year: 2011-?

Both start with two boys taken in at a church. Both protagonist have goals, that doesn’t match with their powers, but still try hard to reach their goal. Both have magic and demons, and have quirky protagonist with a close rival/relative, that is much better and skilled than they are.

5. My Hero Academia

Description: Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not going to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies. Now, the only thing standing between him and his first class is the academy’s formidable entrance exam—nothing a little private tutoring from the world’s mightiest hero can’t solve.

Number of Episodes: 13

Release Year: 2016-?

Like My Hero Academia, Black Clover also has a main character who starts off with no magic. Later though, Asta (like Midorya) receives magic.

Both of these characters have been hurt and underlooked throughout their childhood for not having magic, like the majority of the population should.

Midorya and Asta along with other characters from each show all strive to be the Wizard King// Number 1 hero.

These are both really good animes, and I recommend that you watch the other if you haven’t.

4. Haikyuu!!

Description: Shoyo Hinata isn’t a large guy, but he’s got huge ambitions. Ever since seeing a small player score in a National Championship, he’s been determined to become the next big thing in High School Volleyball. Unfortunately, the one time he was able to pull enough players together to form a team in junior high, they were completely trashed in their first and only match against a team led by up-and-coming setter Tobio Kageyama. Now, enrolled at the same high school where his idol once played, Shoyo’s finally going to get his shot to join and play with a top team. There’s just one problem: Tobio Kageyama’s decided to attend the same school, and he’s already considered one of the best players in the game. Can a kid out of nowhere hold his own against the King of the Court? Or could the rivalry and competition actually be the best thing for both of them?

Number of Episodes: 25

Release Year: 2014-?

One thing I noticed while watching Haikyuu and Black Clover at near the same time, is the two protagonists of both have a very similar dynamic about them, where one is loud and short and frequently underestimated, his rival/friend the tall dark haired one is talented and everyone knows it. They’re both also shounen and have interesting characters and arcs as such.

3. Isekai Cheat Magician

Description: Nishimura Taichi is a typical, average high schooler, and Azuma Rin is a beautiful woman with the build of a model and excellent reflexes. The two live a normal high school life until one day they’re suddenly enveloped in a mysterious magic circle and transported to an unknown land. That world is full of terrifying monsters, beastmen, dwarves, elves, and many other races right out of fantasy. In order to survive in this new world Taichi and Rin decide to become adventurers, but when they take the aptitude test, they discover they both possess cheat level magic…

Number of Episodes: 12

Release Year: 2019

Both focus on fantasy worlds that use magic. Both also have two overpowered Main Characters. Not alot of these kind of shows that are good so it’s always to charish the ones that do good!

2. Fairy Tail

Description: Lucy is a seventeen-year-old mage with the power to summon stellar spirits, but what she really wants to do is join a guild – and not just any guild. She has her eyes set on Fairy Tail, a notoriously reckless and outrageous group of magic users who are likely to be drunk or destroying buildings and towns in the process of completing a job! While in town one day Lucy meets a perpetually-seasick boy named Natsu who, through a series of events, reveals to her that he’s none other than the fire-eating mage Salamander of Fairy Tail! Lucy is finally able to join Fairy Tail and quickly begins to take on odd jobs with Natsu and his gang for fame and profit. Along with her fiery friend, Happy the flying cat, Natsu’s archrival Gray and their overseer the invincible and beautiful Erza, Lucy sets forth for epic adventures that leave an epic amount of destruction in their wake. After all, destroying a city or five doesn’t matter as long as they get the job done… right?!

Number of Episodes: 175

Release Year: 2009-2013

Both similar series about a guild which have strong bonds with one another.  Each series has a strong theme of magic, where things like demons and monsters are both available.

The differences are that Black Clover has a large theme on class diversity and the main character doesn’t have magic.

Fairy Tail is a lot longer of a series although unlike most long series, most of their arcs are rather good.

1. Naruto

Description: Naruto Uzumaki is a young ninja who bears a great power hidden inside him, a power that has isolated him from the rest of his village. As such, his only dream is to become the Hokage – the most powerful ninja, and leader of the village; but first he needs to graduate! With his inability to perform even the most basic ninja techniques, it seems that all Naruto has going for him is his determination to succeed no matter what. Teamed up with the genius Sasuke, book-smart Sakura, and their team leader Kakashi, Naruto embarks on his quest to become the Hokage. But with outside forces posing a threat to the entire Hidden Leaf village, Naruto discovers that he must become much stronger if he ever wants to realize his dream and protect the friendships he’s forged.
