Short introduction to Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi)
Chihiro and her family are on their way to their new home, when they discover an abandoned amusement park. After Chihiro’s family mysteriously turn into pigs, she is thrown into a surreal world of magic and fantasy. Join her as she struggles to survive in the bathhouse of the gods, ruled by an evil witch who has stolen not only her name, but her way back to the real world.

Description: Satsuki, her younger sister Mei and their father have just moved to their new home in the countryside, where grand adventures await them. The two sisters befriend the gentle spirit and are soon introduced to a world more fantastical than they could ever imagine, from playing with soot spirits to meeting a Catbus, to flying through the air and even making the trees grow. However when Mei disappears, Satsuki must call on the help of her new friends if she wants any hope of being able to find her sister…

9. Brave Story

Description: One day, the young Wataru decided to visit a haunted building in search of a ghost, but ended up meeting a boy by the name of Mitsuru instead. The next day, Wataru returns home only to discover that his parents are getting a divorce, and subsequently, his mother ends up in the hospital in critical condition. 8. Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke)

Description: With the rise of the Iron Age in feudal Japan, man and nature grow increasingly at odds. As mankind infringes more and more into the kingdom of the beasts, many of the elder animal gods begin to succumb to their rage, cursing themselves as they lash out at rural and urban settlements alike. 7. Mushishi

Description: It isn’t unusual for a person to feel that the world around them is strange and has unexpected secrets lying just beyond their sight. However, for most people this is just an occasional sensation that greets them upon awakening or chases them into sleep. For the mushi researcher Ginko, it isn’t a feeling at all; it is a knowledge which guides his travels and motivates his life. They surround us and affect us, but their intensely different nature makes them unrecognizable to most. Both of them have a slow plot and maybe will make you bored if you don’t like a soft anime.
but if you like soft and SOL anime, this anime will make you washed away when you watch. The conflict between Human and Nature, then the fantasy with supernatural are the most interested point and making you comfortable to watching.
6. Da Yu Hai Tang (Big Fish & Begonia)

Description: Beyond the human realm, there is a magical race of beings who control the tides and the changing of the seasons. One of these beings, a young girl named Chun, seeks something more—she wants to experience the human world! At sixteen, she finally gets her chance and transforms into a dolphin in order to explore the world that has her fascinated. But she soon discovers that it’s a dangerous place and nearly gets killed in a vortex. Luckily, her life is spared when a young boy sacrifices himself to save her. Moved by his kindness and courage, she uses magic to bring him back to life only to learn that this power comes at a serious price. On a new adventure, she’ll have to make her own sacrifices in order to protect his soul until it is ready to return to the human world.

They have a very similar feeling with similar themes to them. Spirited Away contains traditional Japanese mythology, Big Fish and Begonia is about Chinese mythology. They are both about growth and development and life in general. Both movies feature girls coming to a new, unknown world. They absolutely feel like they could have been written by the same author. Both are absolutely stunning!
5. Majo no Takkyuubin (Kiki’s Delivery Service)

Description: Kiki is a young witch who has just turned thirteen, and as tradition dictates she must now leave the safety of her home for a year to undergo witch training. One clear night, Kiki takes off with her cat Jiji and her mother’s broomstick to start her new life, and finds herself in a town near the ocean – but she’s disappointed to find that people aren’t nearly as friendly as she’d imagined they’d be. With nowhere to stay and no outstanding magical skills besides flying, Kiki begins to wonder if she’s come to the right place; but after returning a pacifier to a customer of a local shop, its owner, Osono, offers her a place to stay. Kiki soon decides that she’ll start her own delivery service, and with the help of newfound friends she sets forth on a journey to discover who she is and how to make it on her own.

Both are Ghibli films directed by Hayao Miyazaki. They have similar art, character designs, and beautiful soundtracks composed by Joe Hisaishi. Both anime have coming of age elements, and focus on a young girl who is struggling with her problems. Both anime also have magical elements, and create an overall similar mood.
4. Hotarubi no Mori e

Description: While visiting her uncle for the summer, six year old Hotaru gets lost in the woods outside the village. Scared, the crying girl is eventually rescued by a gentle youkai named Gin, who is burdened with a curse that will cause him to disappear if ever touched by a human. Though they are barred from physical contact, the two become close friends. But after a few short years it becomes apparent that Gin ages more slowly than humans, so while Hotaru is growing up and changing, Gin remains in stasis. How will Hotaru adapt to the complicated emotions she develops as her and Gin’s ages gradually converge?

Both are movies talking about a human that encounters a resident of spirits, in Spirited away it’s a town and in Hotarubi no Mori e it’s a forest. In both a human girl becomes a friend with one of the spirits and later falls in love with it. Both are lovely supernatural stories.

2. Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume’s Book of Friends)

Both are full of loving characters you will never forget. While Spirited Away is more fast paced, Natsume Yuujin is more slow and calm. Both are full of supernatural creatures and the determination of a child/teen to do what they think is right. Fully fleshed out characters that are brought to life on the screen right before your eyes. If you liked Spirited Away you will love Natsume Yuujin because both are unforgettable in their own right.
